In college, your idea of a margarita was a lick of salt, shot of tequila, and bite into a lime. But those days are over, it’s time to add some class to your next Taco Tuesday.

You need the best margarita recipes to start your party off right. So grab your favorite tequila, coarse salt, and some glasses because here we go.

1. The Traditional

There is nothing like a traditional margarita. Keep it simple and find what works best for you! Christine Pittman came up with this tasty twist on a classic.

Ingredients (Serves 1)

  • kosher salt
  • ice cubes
  • 2 ounces tequila
  • 1 and 1/2 ounce freshly squeezed lime juice
  • 1/2 ounce simple syrup (you can also use agave nectar)
  • 1/2 ounce Triple Sec or Cointreau


  1. Rim your glasses with salt– use a lime around the rim and dip in coarse salt.
  2. Put two handfuls of ice cubes into a cocktail shaker. Add remaining ingredients.
  3. Shake for 10 seconds.
  4. Fill glass half full of ice cubes. Pour contents of shaker over top.

Ingredients (Serves 4)

  • 2 cups crushed ice
  • 1/2 cup strawberry puree (frozen can or fresh strawberries, pureed)
  • 1 cup tequila
  • 2 limes, juiced
  • Splash Triple Sec or Cointreau
  • Splash simple syrup (equal amounts sugar and water heated until sugar dissolves, then cooled)


  1. Combine ice, strawberry puree, tequila, lime juice, Triple Sec and simple syrup into a blender.
  2. Puree until smooth.
  3. Pour into rocks glasses and serve.

3. The Mean Girl

Ingredients (Serves 6)

  • 4 cups cubed watermelon
  • 8 ounces of tequila
  • 4 ounces of Triple Sec
  • 1/4 cup lime juice, plus lime wedges for serving
  • 1 tablespoon agave nectar or simple syrup
  • Ice cubes
  • 1 small jalape?o pepper, thinly sliced


  1. Puree watermelon in a blender until smooth. Strain through fine-mesh and transfer the liquid to a large pitcher (discard the pulp).
  2. Stir in tequila, Triple Sec, lime juice and agave or simple syrup.
  3. Fill 6 glasses with ice and pour margarita mixture over.
  4. Add a few jalape?o slices to each drink and serve with jalapeno wedges.
  5. For an added kick, use chili powder to coat the rim of your glasses.

4. Caliente Kiss

It’s a margarita, it’s a bloody mary, it’s perfect for brunch. Jess Novak hits your taste buds with a savory drink you can treat hungover friends to on a Sunday morning.

Ingredients (Serves 1)

  • 2 ounces Sauza Blue Silver 100% Agave Tequila
  • 2 ounces tomato juice
  • 1 squeeze Sriracha Chili Sauce
  • 1 dash fresh black pepper
  • 1 dash Worcestershire sauce
  • Dash celery salt
  • Dash paprika
  • Dash cumin
  • Juice of 1/2 lemon
  • 1 cucumber slice, for garnish
  • A slice of bacon to garnish if you dare


  1. In a shaker filled partway with ice combine all ingredients.
  2. Shake well and pour into a tall glass over ice.

5. The Antoni

Avocado. This fab margarita is a head-to-toe makeover from traditional to unforgettable. Impress your guests with the big reveal of this Bon Appetit masterpiece.

Ingredients (Serves 8)

  • 2 tablespoons kosher salt
  • 2 teaspoons finely grated lime zest, divided
  • 1 lime wedge
  • 1 avocado, pitted, peeled
  • 3/4 cup plus 2 tablespoons tequila blanco
  • 3/4 cup triple sec
  • 3/4 cup fresh lime juice
  • 2 tablespoons chopped fresh cilantro
  • Pinch of cayenne pepper
  • 8 lime wheels


  1. Toss salt and 1 tsp. lime zest on a small plate. Rub the rim of each margarita glass with lime wedge and dip into salt mixture.
  2. Puree avocado, tequila, triple sec, lime juice, cilantro, cayenne, remaining 1 tsp. lime zest, and 2 1/2 cups ice, preferably crushed, in a blender until smooth.
  3. Divide among prepared glasses and garnish each with a lime wheel.

6. The Marvelous Mango

Ingredients (Serves 1)

  • 3 tablespoons mango puree
  • 2 tablespoons of tequila
  • 1/4 ounce clear orange-flavored liqueur
  • 3/4 ounce fresh lime juice
  • 2 fresh basil leaves, torn
  • 1 ounce. club soda, chilled


  1. Add mango puree, tequila, orange-flavored liqueur, lime juice, and torn basil leaves to cocktail shaker.
  2. Fill shaker with ice; cover and shake vigorously.
  3. Strain into cocktail glass filled with fresh ice; top with club soda.
  4. Garnish with mango puree and basil leaves.

7. Blueberry Bombshell

Ingredients (Serves 8)

  • 1 1/2 cups water
  • 1/2 cup sugar
  • 2 cups blueberries, divided
  • 12 mint leaves
  • 1 1/2 cups of tequila
  • 1/2 cup fresh lime juice
  • 1 tablespoon kosher salt
  • 1 lime, cut into 8 wedges


  1. Combine water and sugar in a container with a tight-fitting lid; seal. Shake 2 minutes or until sugar dissolves.
  2. Thread 1/2 cup blueberries evenly onto 8 (4-inch) wooden skewers; reserve skewers for garnish.
  3. Muddle remaining 1 1/2 cups blueberries and mint leaves in the bottom of a pitcher. Add sugar mixture, tequila, and lime juice; stir.
  4. Moisten half the rim of 8 margarita glasses; dip in salt.
  5. Serve margaritas over ice; garnish with a lime wedge and blueberry “stirrer.”

Ingredients (Serves 1)

  • 1 (12-oz.) can of your favorite La Croix flavor
  • 2 ounces of tequila
  • 2 medium limes, juiced
  • 1 medium orange, juiced

  1. Combine tequila, lime juice, and orange juice in a cocktail shaker or tall glass, stir to combine.
  2. Rim serving glass with salt, if desired; fill with ice.

  • 4 1/2 cups water
  • 1 1/2 cups tequila
  • 1 (12 fluid ounce) can frozen limeade
  • 1/2 cup triple sec (orange-flavored liqueur)
  • 1 whole lime, cut into 6 wedges


  1. Mix the water, tequila, limeade, and orange liqueur in a freezer-proof container with a lid; stir.
  2. Cover and store in freezer until it reaches a slush-like consistency, about 24 hours.
  3. Serve in glasses garnished with lime wedges.
