Not many things fire up a party quite like flaming cocktails.
They draw a crowd and make any party with them one to remember.
Ever since our ancient ancestors created it, humans have been drawn to fire like a moth to a… well, you get it. It only makes sense to combine fire with our other love: delicious cocktails.
Setting drinks on fire may seem like a recent trend, but it actually dates back to 1862. With such a long history there are many recipes out there, so where do you start?
Chances are your favorite alcohol is flammable, but not all liquor burns the same. High proof alcohol such as Bacardi 151 is much easier to coax a stunning flame from than something like Kahlua or Baileys. But that doesn’t mean you can’t add those tasty liqueurs to your flaming drink.
Don’t forget that you’re literally playing with fire, so please remember to extinguish the flame before drinking–nobody wants an ambulance to pick them up from a party. That’s almost as bad as your mom showing up.
If you’re ready to brave the elements and be the center of attention while serving or imbibing a drink on fire, then check out these 9 flaming drink recipes.
1. The Blue Blazer
This is where it all started. The Blue Blazer is a little more complex than most, so study up before you prepare this show-stopping concoction.
4 oz Cask-strength Scotch
2 tsp Demerara or Raw Sugar
2 Pieces Thinly Sliced Lemon Peel
For safety, put some water into a baking sheet to use as a surface in case of spills. Place a piece of lemon peel into each teacup or small heavy glass. Take two pint-sized metal mugs with a lip and add the sugar and 3 ounces of boiling water to one. Add the scotch to the same mug with the water and sugar mixture then ignite.
With the flame burning proceed to pour about half of the contents of the mug into the other. Repeat this process a few times, pouring back and forth between the mugs. Finally, pour the flaming drinks into the glasses or teacups with the lemon peels and cover with the empty metal mugs to extinguish the fire.
2. Flaming Dr. Pepper
Add some beer to your flaming cocktail to get creative.
1/2 Can of Beer (Preferably a Light Beer)
3/4 oz Amaretto
1/4 oz High-proof Rum (Such as Bacardi 151)
Pour amaretto and rum into a shot glass then place the shot glass into an empty beer glass. Pour beer around the shot glass until it reaches the brim of the shot glass. Light the alcohol in the shot glass and let it burn for a few seconds. Blow out the flame and drink it all down as quick as possible.

1 oz Melon Liqueur
1 oz Irish Cream
1/2 oz Bacardi 151

4. Flaming S’Mores Cocktail
We all love summer parties and what’s better than s’mores in the summertime? How about s’mores cocktails anytime?

2 tbsp Marshmallow Fluff
4 Graham Crackers
1 Packet Instant Hot Chocolate
3 Mini Marshmallows
1 oz Heavy Cream
Crush graham crackers thoroughly in a shallow dish and combine with the hot chocolate mix. Prepare a martini glass by dipping the rim into the marshmallow fluff and then into the graham cracker mixture. Use a toothpick or decorative cocktail pick to skewer the three mini marshmallows and place it on the side of the glass.
Combine the vodka, chocolate liqueur, and cream in a shaker filled with ice. Shake and strain into the martini glass. Carefully pour the rum onto the top, making sure it floats on top. Light the cocktail and toast your marshmallow skewer. Let the fire burn out or extinguish it before drinking.
5. Flaming Fruit Trees
This cocktail may taste fruity but it packs a punch.

Some flaming alcoholic drinks have become so popular that they are standard in many bars, and this one certainly belongs in that group.
1/2 oz Kahlua

Splash of High-proof rum (Such as Bacardi 151)
To properly create the three layers in a shot glass, pour each layer after the first one over the back of a cold spoon. Pour the Kahlua first, then Bailey’s Irish cream, followed by the Grand Marnier. Gently top it off with a splash of the high-proof rum. Light up the drink and blow out after a couple of seconds before knocking it back.
