How can you possibly make a gathering of your closest friends and family better? That’s an easy one.

You add a little marijuana. By a little marijuana, I mean a whole bunch of it.

Recreational marijuana is not legal everywhere in the United States yet. Some states are a little ahead of the curve. That’s where you need to be if you want to have the party of the century.

Now that you know how to elevate your party high above the rest, you have one question. Where can you buy recreational weed? Below you will find the states that allow you to do so.

You will need to pack some snacks.

Alaska

The first recreational dispensary in Alaska opened in 2016. What better place to enjoy a hit from the old bong?

The outdoors are endless in the rural wilderness of the nation’s largest state. Toke up and catch a glimpse of a moose or a bear.

If you are over 21 years of age, you can purchase up to an ounce of marijuana.

California

Ever dream of rolling up to the Santa Monica boardwalk on a weekend getaway with your closest pals? Add a bit of pot to the mix and you have yourself one wild ride.

California law allows you to carry up to an ounce of marijuana, provided you are 21 or over.

Wondering where you can smoke? The locals have been doing this for decades. Let them show you.

Colorado

Where can you go a mile high to get a mile high? That’s right! Colorado!

Colorado was one of the first two states to legalize recreational marijuana in 2012. Since then, it has become a popular destination for green tourists.

Tourists and residents alike can purchase up to an ounce of marijuana at a time. Again, this is only if you are 21.

District of Columbia

As of 2015, anyone 21 or over can possess up to two ounces of marijuana in the nation’s capital. You can even “gift” up to an ounce.

Now is the time to go get high, walk to the Washington Monument, and make obscene gestures.

Do you think Barack Obama smokes weed with Hillary Clinton on Thursdays?

Nevada

Sin a little harder down the Las Vegas strip. Anyone over 21 can legally possess up to an ounce of marijuana.

Light up while the neon lights light up the night sky.

The dispensaries have been known to run out of marijuana though. Act quickly!

Maine

Welcome to Vacationland. Now that recreational marijuana is legal in this underappreciated state, Mainers can have up to 2.5 ounces of weed.

Unfortunately, this must be grown personally. Dispensaries are not expected to open until 2019.

For now, you’ll have to cozy up with some Mainers and discover the differences between hard-shell and soft-shell lobsters. That’s the way life should be.

Massachusetts

Have you ever wanted to have your own Boston Tea Party? Maybe with less revolution? And instead of throwing tea into the harbor, you make pot tea?

Now’s your chance! Get all of your friends together in Boston and brew up some tasty teas, tinctures, and more!

You won’t want to be throwing these concoctions into the ocean.

Oregon

Have you ever been somewhere more gorgeous? Neither have I. The rocky coastline is unlike any other.

You can now carry an ounce of weed in the wonderful state of Oregon. Tax revenues have since been used to fund schools, local governments, police departments, and more!

Imagine a place where weed pays for your child’s education. That sounds like Utopia to me.

Vermont

Students at the University of Vermont have been smoking weed on the quad since the beginning of time.

The residents of the Green Mountain state didn’t even have to vote for this right. The legislature passed the measure, and Governor Phil Scott signed the bill into law in January of 2018.

Although adults can carry up to an ounce of marijuana, there are no plans to open any dispensaries yet. Residents can, however, grow up to two plants.

Washington

Washington was the other state, along with Colorado, that was first to legalize recreational marijuana. Adults can carry up to an ounce of weed at any given time.

A medical reason is needed in order to grow the plant.

That’s okay. You’re here to party, not start an agricultural operation. You’ll head down to the dispensary and buy a whole lot of weed.

On Legality Before You Buy Recreational Weed

Each state that allows the sale and purchase of recreational marijuana requires buyers to be 21 years of age or older. Be mindful of local laws. You should not smoke marijuana in public spaces unless laws do not prohibit it.

In general, you should smoke marijuana or consume edibles in the privacy of your own home or hotel. Some hotels allow you to smoke weed, so you may wish to do a bit of research.

You cannot drive while under the influence of marijuana.

Federal legislation still classifies marijuana as a Schedule I drug. This should not affect your party, as long as you are in a weed-friendly state.

However, you cannot cross state borders with any amounts of marijuana. Even if you are crossing the border from one legal state to another, you are still in violation of federal law.

It is always best to keep the weed in the state in which you bought it. In general, be smart and be safe.

Life Elevated With a Pot Party

Once, you’ve chosen a venue, choose the right weed for your party. Then, you can buy recreational weed.

This party sure won’t be a rager. Some of your friends might choose to take a nap on the patio.

Regardless, this party will undoubtedly be tons of fun for the whole family. Maybe not the whole family. Children will have to be excluded.
